Giant fennel seeds planting

Ferula communis, also known as giant fennel, is a flowering plant in the carrot family. It is a tall, herbaceous perennial plant that can grow up to 8 feet tall and 3 feet 3 inches wide.
In late winter and early spring, younger plants produce feathery leaves that turn yellow and die back later in the spring.

After five years or more, giant fennel can produce sturdy branched stems that form large flowerheads. The flowerheads are made up of multiple umbels of tiny yellow flowers.

The flower-stalk is thick, purple tinted, and topped with yellow umbellifer flowers.  Giant fennel flowers in June.

Fresh plant materials, crude extracts and isolated components of F. communis showed a wide spectrum of in vitro and in vivo pharmacological properties including antidiabetic, antimicrobial, antiproliferative, and cytotoxic activities.

Ferula communis can be found in Southwestern and Southeastern Europe, Northern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Kashmir, France,Afghanistan, China and Cévennes.

The resin of the giant fennel plant is used to make Heeng- asafoetida, a unique-smelling spice with onion and garlic flavors.
