Small amounts are obtained commercially for medicinal purposes from S.E. Europe, Morocco, Kashmir, Italy and France. Its principal use is as an expectorant and antispamodic in the treatment of bronchitis and whooping cough; it also possesses choleretic properties. The active principals appear to be diterpenes.
